Joint account

Joint account

Dear Sophie,

When you grow up and get married, your mom and I would really encourage you to have a joint bank account with your husband. We believe that trust is a big part of a strong marriage, and sharing finances reflects that trust.

It's important to go into marriage completely committed. That means trusting each other enough to work on your financial future together. We don't believe in hiding money 'just in case' things don't work out.

Of course, be careful about things like co-signing loans or credit cards – only do that if you know and trust him completely. Time is a great way to test that trust. Your mom and I waited seven years before opening a joint account. I know you'll make smart choices... just like she does.

Love always,

Mummy and daddy.
